European Day of Languages

European Day of Languages

This month we are looking forward to celebrating the European Day of Languages on 26 September.

We will hold several language taster sessions in Leeds Central Library:

12.00-12.30 Turkish

12.45-13.15 Welsh

13.30-14.00 German

14.15-14.45 Urdu

15.00-15.30 IT session: finding information online, such as foreign newspapers and radio stations

No need to book – just turn up on the day!  Go to the First Floor of the Central Library, in the Exhibition Space (between the Art and Music Libraries).

(we reserve the right to change these details if necessary)

Bramley Library will also be holding a puppet storytelling performance and workshop, with Lorna Goldman, between 12 and 2pm.

Please phone 0113 247 6016 for more information.

Additionally, Europe Direct would again like to invite you to take part in a monthly competition/discussion:

We will give you a phrase in English, German, French or Italian and invite you to translate it into the remaining three languages. You can win a lovely Europe shopping bag.

Cheat tip (not that we encourage this):

We are using Baedecker’s “Traveller’s Manual of Conversation”, ca. 1900.

You are free to discuss amongst each other, use the comment box if you wish. Then email the solution to europedirect@leeds.gov.uk

“Ist der Weg leicht zu finden?” (this is German)

Can you do the others?

Good luck!

(Closing date is 15 October.)
